CULTURAL EVENINGS
To add colour to your desert evenings, traditional performances by the ‘Kalbelia’ dancers & ‘Langas’ (folk singers) will enthrall you as you sit around bonfires. To add a dash flavour to those evenings, they have arranged for performances by the quaint ‘Dhamaal’ dancers from the Ratanpur village of Gujarat. These are of the ' Siddi Goma Group'. Of African descent but settled in Gujarat for several generations, these dancers are sure to spice things up.Siddis are a negroid community tracing their ancestry to Africa. Believed to have come from African countries as mercenaries, slaves and labour, the Siddis grew to become powerful generals, some of them even became rulers. In Gir, there are villages of the Siddis, who are well known for their dances and other performances, and a major shrine for the community.
